The standout from this week's crime blotter…

On June 2nd at 9:00 am, Officers Oropeza and Lee responded to a call of a man assaulting people in the area of 3rd and 20th Sts. They located four victims of a bizarre incident involving a robbery and several seemingly random assaults. As a result of their investigation, they learned that the first victim had just walked out of a coffee shop holding her morning coffee in her hand when she was approached by a suspect who threatened to harm her physically if she did not hand over her coffee immediately (this is not a misprint…. he wanted her coffee). Anyway, fearing he might harm her, she gave the suspect her coffee and watched him cross the street with it. Once on the other side of the road, the suspect approached a second victim from behind and kicked him. When this second victim turned around, the suspect threw the same coffee that he had just obtained via robbery into the man’s face! Simultaneously, a third victim was riding down the street on her bicycle. As she rode by the suspect, he punched her, causing her to fall off the bike onto the pavement. As if this was not enough, the suspect then approached the fourth victim, who was standing on the sidewalk minding her own business, and punched her so hard that she too fell to the ground. By this time, Officer Jackson has arrived on scene and promptly took the suspect into custody. Luckily, there were Good Samaritans at the scene who immediately called the police and rendered assistance to the victims (all of which received the necessary medical treatment for their injuries.) The motive behind this guy’s angry rampage is not yet clear. One thing is for certain though, had Officer Jackson not been so "Johnny on the Spot" who knows how many folks this angry man would have accosted. Let's see how his "gimme your coffee thing" plays in jail/prison when he's amongst a far less charitable bunch. (Case No. 100509988)
