Trial ordered for hit-run rampage in Potrero

From the SF Chronicle:

SAN FRANCISCO -- An Albany man accused of running down four bicyclists in the Mission District and Potrero Hill in a six-minute rampage last year must stand trial for attempted murder, a San Francisco judge said Tuesday.

The attorney for David Mark Clark, 40, said outside court that he will pursue an insanity defense.

Clark is accused of four counts of attempted murder and other charges for allegedly aiming his 2008 Nissan Rogue sport utility vehicle at four bicyclists the night of June 2, 2010.

All four survived but were badly hurt, suffering injuries that included broken legs, bruised organs, lost teeth and a broken jaw, said Assistant District Attorney Todd Barrett.

The attacks began on Harrison Street near 23rd Street. Throughout the mile-long rampage, witnesses reported seeing Clark's SUV swerve several times to hit the cyclists.

After slamming into the fourth victim at the corner of Missouri and 17th streets, the SUV crashed into a light pole and Clark fled on foot, witnesses said.
