SF COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY WANTS YOUR IDEAS!

Regional Transportation Plan and SF Transportation Plan Call for Projects

A new transit line, streetscape enhancements, bicycle lanes.  Did you know that these kinds of transportation investments in our city frequently start with great ideas from members of the San Francisco public?  Every few years, the San Francisco County Transportation Authority has the opportunity to put out a Call for Projects – you bring us your best ideas for new transportation projects in San Francisco and we work with you to make them happen.  Visit www.sfcta.org/RTPcallforprojects between now and March 24, 2011 to find out more and submit your ideas.

Any transportation project that seeks federal or state funding must be included in the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s (MTC) Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) which covers the nine-county Bay Area. The San Francisco County Transportation Authority is coordinating San Francisco’s priorities for the RTP and will be submitting them to the MTC.  We’re also interested in project ideas to include in the San Francisco Transportation Plan (SFTP), which sets our city’s local priorities for long-range planning.

In 2008, the State of California adopted SB 375, which establishes new requirements for sustainable planning.  As a result, each region is required to create a Sustainable Communities Strategy – a strategy that seeks to achieve ambitious greenhouse gas reduction targets and to accommodate the need for new housing at all income levels.  In pursuit of these Sustainable Communities Strategy requirements, we encourage you to submit ideas for transportation investments that a) will reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs), and b) target neighborhoods where transit-oriented development (especially affordable housing) is planned.  San Francisco has always been a leader in sustainability, and this Call for Projects is an opportunity for our city to get a bigger share of the funding pie.

We need your input by March 24, 2011!  It’s easy to submit your ideas.  Visit www.sfcta.org/RTPcallforprojects or call 415-593-5244 to find out more, submit your ideas, and see a schedule of upcoming meetings.  You can also learn more about the San Francisco Transportation Plan at www.movesmartSF.com and about the Regional Transportation Plan at www.onebayarea.org.
